Activated free SIM but no 1GB data

I've just activated a free SIM that I received over a month ago but I'm not getting any data. I'm aware that I may have left it too long but it's unclear - I don't remember being told a specific date by which to activate it. So what, if anything, can I do now to test the connection speed, other than paying a month's subscription?

Is the Nokia 1.4 unlocked for use on any network?

It needs to be to use it on 48.

That applies to a phone locked to Three even though 48 is a subsidiary of Three.

Does your My48 account Dashboard show that you have the free Introductory 1GB data allowance?

Did you configure your APN settings for mobile data to work?

If you're on Android then you can text "APN" to 50048 and follow the instructions here to do that:

It didn't on Sunday but when I logged in again today, it clearly shows that I have 1GB to use and 5 days in which to use it. So I guess it just took a while to come through.

Is it working?

No. On my Andoid phone, a Nokia 1.4, bought in a Three store:

settings => network and internet => mobile network 48 => advanced => access point names => Access Point Name settings are not available for this user.

When I sent "APN" as a text message to 50048 as you suggested, I got this reply:

From 48. Apologies, your handset does not support this service. Please connect to WiFi and visit on48.ie/APNSettings for manual instructions on how to update your APN settings.

I tried another phone, a Pixel 5. I got online immediately after putting in the 48 SIM, no changes to the APN settings required. Still a problem for the other phone though.

I don't know why the options to configure your APN settings on the Nokia are not available.

You might need to check the support channels for the Nokia phone.
