What do you mean it won't read the SIM card?
Do you get any error messages?
iPhones need activation on some networks due to the stupid way that Apple do things.
This process requires a UK SMS to be sent automatically.
On 48 you need at least 25c cash credit to pay for this.
Try putting a small amount of cash credit on your account, switch the phone off and on again and wait a while to see if that helps.
