Was it all working before?
Did it stop after the iOS update?
Perhaps the update means that the phone needs to be activated again which requires cash credit on your account to pay for one (or more?) UK SMS messages that get sent automatically as part of the activation process?

If you do a manual search for networks can you see and connect to 48?
If not what networks do you see?
Are there any error messages?
Is the phone unlocked for use on any network?
