I have just put my new SIM card into my iPad, it asked to update settings which I did. Since then, it has been trying to connect but with no luck. Does anyone have any idea as to why this may be? Any suggestions gratefully received.

VOILÀ - I changed the settings from Local Home Profile to International Roaming and it works. Thank you folks for your time and help.

Hi dalyer, the Sim worked perfectly in my iPhone. I could access APN and insert the 48months thing. Got onto web etc

Dalyer, good point. I redid the iPhone and turned off the WiFi. I tried the APN settings you suggested and the settings Conor suggested and nothing.

I put the SIM card back into the iPad and this time I actually got a signal although there is no mobile data. I was able to input the APN details that dalyer suggested and the settings Conor suggested but still nothing
