I have entered the SIM to the phone and entered the PIN but then it asking me for a password and I cannot enter the password using the keypad on my older style phone as each tap is registering as digit in the password e.g. I have to press the number 8 twice to record the letter

48 doesn't require any alphanumeric passwords.

What make and model of phone is it?

What is the verbatim prompt/message on screen when you are prompted for this password?
