will 48 sim card work in sim free phone?

I'm planning on buying a sim free sony xperia from the carphone warehouse, but was told by the shop assistant that there is a chance that my 48 sim card will not work in the phone even though it is sim free,but he couldn't say for sure..he did say however that o2 sim cards definitely will work, and I know that 48 work off the o2 network, so could you please confirm whether or not my 48 sim would work before I buy a new phone?

A 48 SIM will work in any handset that is not network locked. I don't know why the sales assistant is saying that it might not. Why not get a free 48 SIM, register it, bring it along and try it in the shop? Even without buying membership you can call the SIM's new 089 number and if the call comes through then you know for sure that everything works.
