i ordered a replacement sim and activated i, but dont need it anymore. can i use my old sim again?

Why do you need to use the old SIM when the new one works?

Is it because the two SIMs are different sizes/form factors (e.g. micro versus nano) or something?

If you really need to switch back to the old SIM then you'll need to ask 48 support to sort this out for you:
