Just wondering how it works when I text/ring a friend abroad who is on an Irish mobile.

For instance, I have the Don, so unlimited calls and texts to Irish numbers. If my friend is in US or Europe, using his Irish mobile, are my calls/texts to him still free?

If it's an Irish mobile number then it's included in your membership/add-on bundled minutes/calls even if they are roaming. Whoever you are calling should check out what their network/operator charges for them to receive calls while roaming as the person called will usually foot the bill for additional charges in such a situation.
