Phone calls abroad

Can't make calls when roaming. I was in northern Ireland yesterday tried making calls back to the south, and got a message saying this service is not available. Also had the same problem earlier in the year when trying to make calls in Lanzarote.
Also the data connection in the north of Ireland was terrible, also in Lanzarote but not as bad as Northern Ireland.
Am I missing something or is it a settings issue.

For issues while roaming abroad the usual general advice applies...

Unfortunately many people still seem to have problems with roaming abroad on 48 for some reason.

(On the other hand all the people who have no problems don't post to report their positive experiences!)

If your SIM predates January 2023 then a replacement may mitigate or eliminate roaming problems:

If calls and texts work but mobile data doesn't then double check that your APN settings are still configured correctly:
