Every time I try to activate my iMessage it keeps saying carrier error ? Why won't iMessage work with 48 ?

You may need some cash credit on your account.
Activation may require the once off sending of a UK SMS which costs 25c.
Try topping up your credit balance by €1 and see if that helps.
You might also want to search the forum for existing threads about activating iMessage.
