As I said I really don't understand why SIMs seem to go bad like this.

I do not understand how is SIM bad, but this is reality. Was signal for me when i was in other country and do not work.Bad service. I some people use 48months only in Ireland not recommend use for roaming.

What happens when you do a manual search for networks and try to connect to one?
What make and model of phone are you using?

In France, Europe. The other 3 48 customers have roaming but I don't eventhough my plan includes it

Is anything working?

Connection to a local network - i.e. signal bars? 

Incoming/outgoing calls? 

Incoming/outgoing texts? 

Mobile data? 

As ever, the usual general advice applies in relation to 48 roaming...

Unfortunately many people still seem to have problems with roaming abroad on 48 for some reason.

(On the other hand all the people who have no problems don't post to report their positive experiences!)

If mobile data doesn't work while roaming abroad in countries where it's supported then check that your APN settings are configured correctly:

In some countries an active membership plan and cash credit to pay for mobile data usage are required.
