What exactly happened here? 

Why do you think that a payment was taken without authorisation?

The only way that 48 can take a payment from your card/bank is if you authorise it or via the membership plan auto-renewal option (which is also authorised when you enable the option).

What sort of payment was taken and for what? 

What was the amount?

What does your Transactions page say about the payment?
