Was this phone ever working on 48 before?
If so has something changed - e.g. software upate etc.?
It may need (re?)activation on the 48 network (due to the stupid way that Apple do things) in which case you'll need to put a small amount of cash credit on your account to pay for the UK SMS (25c) that this process sends automatically.
Then switch it off and back on again and wait...
Or sync with iTunes.
Or have you been abroad recently?
If so then this issue may be relevant:
Hope this helps.

Any software update or settings changes recently?
What do you get if you do a manual search for networks?
Can you see 48?
Is data roaming still enabled?
Can you test the SIM in another unlocked phone?
Not sure why but it seems like some people experience spontaneous failure of their SIMs like this and need a replacement. Maybe that's the problem here?
You might need to contact 48 support.

Hope this helps.
