activating a new sim

Can I activate my new sim any time of day or night or does it have to be working hours only to avoid being without my number? Is there any way my old number can be lost in the change over?

I'm not sure but I think that SIM activation can be done any time and not just during office hours.
Not sure what you mean by your old number being lost during the change over?
