Hi lads i lost my iphone recently and claimed a new 1 off insurance..unfortunatly my 48 sim card wont work in it. they have given me three unlocked replacement phones i have tried vodafone, o2 and 3 sim cards in them. All work fine but when i put in my 48 sim card the phone the iPhone says it has to be activated with a recognised sim card and will not work for me. Have ye got any insight on this or how can i fix it?

Hi there,

I am thinking it has something to do with 3, Vodafone and O2 selling the iPhone themselves. The iPhone recognises their SIM cards and are able to load their APN settings automatically. Set up the iPhone with one of their SIM cards are just pop in the 48 SIM card after it is set up and enter in the 48 APN stuff manually then.

Hope this helps,

In some (or all?) case you need to sync with iTunes to get an iPhone to work with a new SIM. When doing this make sure that you have a small credit balance (e.g. about a €1) as it may need to send a couple of SMS messages that are not included in the membership/add-on bundle. This approach was mentioned in a previous thread but I don't know if it was here or on the old forum.. Try that and see what happens maybe?

Hope this helps.

Hi mate thanks for the reply. Yeah when you get a new iphone the iphone has to activate with a sim in it. First time around i tries to activate with the 48 sim but it did not recognize it. I then tried with a 3 sim card and the Iphone activated and was working fine. I then put back in my 48 sim and after a couple of seconds the iPhone just returned to the activation screen saying it did not recognise the sim and i couldnt go any further as if the phone was locked!

Does a Vodafone or O2 Sim card work in the iPhone. I have heard stories of iPhones locking to the network of the first SIM insterted?

Have you tried using iTunes for activiation like dalyer suggested above?

Anything useful here (even if a few months old)?

If you don't make progress then maybe get another 48 SIM and try that. I've had and heard about SIM specific weirdness that is rectified by getting a new SIM. E.g. I had to try three SIMs before I was able to send MMS messages for some odd reason that nobody could explain...

If you are able to use the existing SIM (in another phone) for now then order a new SIM and when you get it don't register it but log a support request asking 48 to move your account over to it.

If you cannot use the existing SIM in the meantime then just order a replacement SIM since deactivation of the existing SIM makes no difference to you.

Yeah I tried a vodafone sim it worked. I then put in my 48 sim wouldn't work then I put in a o2 sim and that worked...im gonna try itunes again I tried it with the first replacement phone and didn't t work but ill try it now again

Just to reiterate - make sure you have some cash credit (separate from membership which you will also need) on your 48 account before doing the iTunes sync/activation as the process may require the sending of some SMS messages that are charged from your cash credit balance.

Hope this helps.

Check if there are any updates for your phone? Also try resetting network settings on the iPhone before you insert the 48 SIM.
