I recently signed up to 48, however I can't receive picture messages via regular text (whatsapp etc fine), please can you help?

I presume you mean MMS picture messages and not iMessages?

Do you have a data allowance and data connection?
Are your internet/APN settings correct?

Can you send MMS (they cost 30c each charged from your credit balance).
