Got new phone but texts go to old phone

Just got a new phone 2 days ago, put my 48 sim into the new phone. Any contacts that existed on the old phone for some reason i cant recieve their messages on my new phone, calls work but i dont understand why messages dont go to new phone, theres no sim in the old one. Can anyone help?

What make and model was your old phone?

And your new phone?

 

Was your old phone an iPhone by any chance?

If it was then perhaps such messages are being sent by other iPhone users via iMessage and not getting through?
