Having problems activating a new SIM

Moving to 48 and got the SIM card and cannot activate it I keep getting an error message- need help activating.

Number port seems to be taking a long time

Will I keep my plan if my number changes

I joined 48 and have a new number. I requested to keep my old number and I'm waiting for them to change me over. If I buy a plan now on the new number and then say on Monday they change me over, will I lose my current plan I paid for?
