Why can't I send/receive SMS messages?

Why is my sms not working? I cant send or receive sms from anyone

When was it working ok for you last? 

Are calls and mobile data working ok? 

What happens when you try to send a text? 

What happens at the sender's end when they try to send you one? 

Any error messages in either case? 

Is your SMSC number configured correctly?

What make and model of phone is it? 

If it's an iPhone then could it be an iMessage issue?
