SIM activated but not working in phone

The problem with the sim card is that it is activated online and that I payed for it to be activated and topped up but it won't work in my phone, I went to the technician and they said its the sim card problem not my phone. The sim card is not functioning. How can I get it to function

What happens when you have the SIM in your phone?

Any error messages?

Can you get a connection to the 48 network - i.e. signal bars?

If you do a manual search for networks can you see and connect to 48?

Is the phone unlocked for use on any network?
