Hi folks. I just got an extra sim thinking I would use it for my wifi. I activated it, bought credit but it is not working. Would any of you tech savvy people have any advice, thanks in advance 🙂

You mean you didn't know that you could configure things for your laptop to use your phone to connect to the internet?

You seem to be using an iPhone so this should help:

https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT204023

As ever Apple make things more complicated than they need to be so if you have problems with this then have a look at the note about iPhone personal hotspot setup:

Hope this helps.

You say wifi but do you actually mean carrier data for connectivity while out and about?
If so then you need to configure the internet settings for the SIM.
You can follow the instructions here to do this

Is it a dual SIM phone?
Are you using two 48 SIMs?
If so, why?

You say you bought credit but if that means cash credit then you still need to buy membership for the SIM to work.

Many dual SIMs only support slow data speeds on the second SIM.

What make and model of phone is it?

Hope this helps.

Hi dayler. I have a sim which I have membership for and is used for my phone. I got a new one (added credit and membership) thinking I could put it in my wifi for my laptop internet use one only. Thanks so much for your reply 🙂

So it's not a dual SIM phone but you have one 48 SIM in your phone and one in your laptop?

Why not just use one SIM in your phone and configure your phone as a personal wifi hotspot allowing your laptop to use its internet connection?

That would halve your monthly costs.

If, for some reason, you need separate SIMs then you still need to configure your laptop so that the SIM it uses has the correct APN settings.

How you do this depends on the system and utilities that you are using on your laptop.

If you're using Windows 10 then something like this may be relevant:

Hope this helps.

Dayler, I can see why you are called legend! Thank you do much for your help. I have been flat out at work but have attempted to configure my phone (thanks to your help). I will be able to check tomorrow to see if it has worked. Thanks so much for taking the time to help a techno phob like myself, I really appreciate it 🙂

Glad it helped.

Let us know how it goes when you test it.
