Roaming abroad & can't receive text messages/security codes

I am currently out of country and I am unable to receive security code numbers when they are sent to my phone number and also any text messages.

How do I fix this?

Are calls and mobile data working ok? 

Can you send texts? 

For roaming issues the usual general advice applies...
