Hi, just landed in the UK, phone registering on a network, can't manually set the network either. For any three network, it says not available. Reading the troubleshooting guid, it says to use the 48 sim menu...however I don't appear to have that, any idea why?

Do you see anything like SIM Toolkit, SIM Tool [Kit] Manager, SIM Manager, STK etc.?
The "app" in question sometimes has slightly different names on different phones for some reason.
