Plan expired - immediately cut off

My elderly brother had a failed renewal of his plan - through no fault of his. I presume some glitch in the bank transaction caused the failure. The card details were correct and valid. 

My issue is that within minutes his service was cut off. Surely this is unreasonable - I would expect at least a second attempt at the transaction.

So is there anything we can do to prevent a recurrence of the problem? Would buying extra credit help to keep him on the air?

I presume that you mean auto-renewal of the plan failed? 

As far as I know auto-renewal doesn't retry if the payment fails. 

Perhaps there was a problem at the bank end causing the payment to fail? 

Maybe check with them?

If auto-renewal fails then just buy a plan manually and then auto-renewal will take over again the next time if it's enabled.

It's also possible to buy several membership plans in advance to cover a number of months going forward if that's of any use?
