Hey, I have never seen any other provider asking for activation cost that too 12.99. Why its the case? What speciality does it provide that compares to other providers?Its very expensive. Many of my friends are refuses to consider 48 SIM because of the recent change.

The activation fee isn't a recent change. 

It's been charged for a long time.

You'll probably have to ask 48 support why they charge an activation fee.

Nobody here on the Community Forum is going to be able to answer that question authoritatively, just with speculation.

By the way, 48 are not unique in charging an activation fee. 

Clear Mobile, Eir, GoMo also charge an activation fee.

From time to time 48 run a second month free promotion that effectively cancels out the activation fee, but it's not available right now. 

Another option is to use the Recruit and Reward referral link which also gives free cash credit that effectively cancels out the activation fee.
