Do you mean how to get rid of the roaming "R" on the signal bars when using 48?
In most cases it's not possible and you just have to live with it - but it doesn't involve any extra charges or service issues.
In some cases there is an "Enable national data roaming" option that you can enable to get rid of it.
But I've only ever seen that on CyanogenMod ROMs.
