Porting to new network. My 48 number reads as "Tesco"

Hi, anyone have this problem? I tried moving to a new network, but when I put my current 48 phone number in to port over, it comes up as "tesco mobile". I assume this means the new network will contact tesco to begin porting. I have never been with the tesco network. Apn are liffeytelecoms.

What do you mean by "it comes up as Tesco Mobile" and "My number reads as Tesco"?

Where does this happen and where do you see this?

If this means that it's on the other provider's porting form then you'll need to ask them about this.

  • but when I put my current 48 phone number in to port over

If you need to contact 48 support about this then see the links in my signature below.

Whe signing up with a new network, on their website, they have an option to get a new number or port over an existing one. I go with existing, put in my 48 number and the field below is automatically populated with "Tesco" which I can't change. I get an option of "bill pay" or "prepay" which is presumably tesco options. This happened on gomo and lidl website.

You'll need to ask the new network about this.

If they're identifying a 48 number as belonging to Tesco then they may have a bug on their system.

Yeah, I have contacted them. It's a strange bug, i assume this will mess up changing networks.

It may just be a display issue like when some phones misidentify networks and show, for example, Tesco instead of 48 when connected to mobile data.

In that case it is innocuous once mobile data is working ok.

But I've never heard of the issue that you describe when porting a number so it may be a good idea to clarify things with the new provider just in case the misidentification might cause problems or delays with the number porting.

Yeah, it's literally just from inputting my phone number. I have gone ahead with the port request earlier, but it'll probably mess up at some point.

If you get a chance let us know how it goes in case it helps anyone else in the future.

Thanks.

Good luck!
