The Boxing Plot were winners of a competition we sponsored called Phantom’s next ICON a few months back. The aim of the competition was to give light to some young, talented & aspiring bands. The winners not only played live on Phantom but got to play live in The Workman’s Club & had 3 day recording session in Temple Lane Recording Studios.
We want to share their first music video with you. We love it & think these guys are ones to watch out for!
They are a 4-man band from Dublin, formed in 2009 and are emerging with some spectacular, fresh sound.
The Boxing Plot contains these four gentlemen:
Have you listened to their music yet? If not, then it's about time you do! Check out their latest music video below. Next one is coming soon too so keep an eye out.
To find out who's the biggest diva in the band and if they'd rather record with Miley or Sinead, read on!
You’ve been together since 2009, how did you get started?
We all went to school together. It all started during rugby training when we were young lads. Maurice "accidently" kicked Oliver with his studded boots and burst his face. We then decided that sports weren't for us and we needed a more indoorsy hobby. Oliver, Maurice and Oscar then spent the next few years playing in shite bands together, and eventually we got Harry on board and formed The Boxing Plot.
Where does the name The Boxing Plot come from?
There isn't much of a story behind the name. We needed to call ourselves something, and I think Oscar was reading the Wikipedia page about the Chinese Boxer Rebellion at the time but that name was already taken, so he suggested The Boxing Plot. Also, I'm fairly sure that was just supposed to be a temporary name until we thought of something else.
Who writes your songs, what is the inspiration behind your music?
It's a joint effort. We'd usually start with a small idea and then jam it out for a while until we have something solid. Then we add some vocals and put more of a structure on it. It varies though. One of our newer songs, Malmo, was made by Oscar in Garageband first. Then we transcribed that to our respective instruments, and rewrote a lot of the parts and restructured the song. I think that's a method we'll be using more.
What are the best and worst parts of playing a gig?
It's always nice when it's your gig, and the people are actually there to see you. We've played a couple of gigs in the past where there are more people in the band than in the crowd, and the people there are just trying to pretend it's not happening.
You won Phantoms Next Icon in 2012 tell us more about that
That was very nice. Phantom had us in for a few interviews and they gave us lots of airplay. They also organised our first headline show in The Worman's Club and we got to spend a weekend in Sun Studios recording two singles.
What’s next for the band?
We'll be releasing our next single, 'Heidecker' on the 5th of January followed by a headline show in The Grand Social on the 10th with our buddies Otherkin supporting.
Who is the biggest diva in the band?
If diva is just a nice word for prick, then I'd have to say... All of us.
If you had to whom would you prefer to record a song with Miley or Sinead?
Probably Sinead, because she's much more respected and also for geographical convenience.
