If you find yourself suddenly without iMessage and Facetime after the iOS 26 upgrade and you've tried everything it's worth trying Apple. I thought I was going to have to leave 48 but I requested apple support and 12hrs later got a message that they have enabled iMessage and now it works again.

48 don't do eSIMs.
The other thing to try in such circumstances is to put €1 cash credit on your account in case the usual silly Apple activation process (for the phone itself, iMessage, FaceTime etc.) needs to happen again - the one that involves the phone silently sending one or more SMS messages to a UK activation server and which will silently fail if there isn't cash credit to pay for the international texts.
