Hi - 2nd iPhone working fine on 48, no word from apple yet but I'm going to mail them again tomorrow as they are usually good. Was in Scotland for the weekend and was able to text perfectly over there as purchased the add on but just no data so was used hotel wifi.
I think 48 really need to get an SMTP server setup for outgoing mail.

Thank's for the update...

Your SMTP suggestion has been mentioned in various post's on the forum...

It's seem's it's not something which 48 intend to bring in - for the foreseeable.

Personally, i would prefare not to have such, when webmail elsewhere triumph's left right and centre.

Especially not, as it would Surely increase Membership fee's as a knock-on effect...

I don't understand the need for 48 or any carrier to provide an SMTP server.

I can send mail fine on 48 using Hotmail, Gmail and other mail services - not using webmail but using the Android mail client (or K9 Mail which I use these days).

Surely that's an issue for eircom so - not for 48?

No all the other carriers have an SMTP server for mobile mail.

You mean an SMTP server for sending email using a carrier provided email address (e.g. joe.bloggs@48months.ie or something like that)?

Now an update from Apple support:

Thank you for contacting Apple James.

I have checked that the activation policy has changed.
Please let me know if you issue is resolved on not.
You can find my contact details and schedule below.

So I just tried the sim back into my own iphone and it activated, so this is nothing really to do with a phone being unlocked as mine was unlocked its down to an activation policy applied by apple on the unlock/phone.

SMTP server would be just to allow you to send mail while using 48, not a email address @48.ie just a outgoing mail server.
