i am currently using an 083 number but i need to get a new one? can i still get an 089 one??

You could get a new sim with a new 089 number but that will be a new account. If you want an 089 number for your existing account then I think you'll need to contact 48 support to ask them if they can allocate you a new number. See the "How to get help" key post at the top of the forum.

does that mean that I would be without a working sim card until the new one arrives!? I obviously cant transfer my membership over to my new account

Did you contact 48 support and ask them if they can allocate a new 089 number to your existing SIM/account etc.? That would be the easiest if they can do it.
