As far as I know most Androids don't support changing this number on the SIM! Not just older ones.

Some do - e.g. CyanogenMod and rooted phones with the Xposed framework installed. There are a number of Xposed mods/plugins that allow SIM number editing.

Also some other phone operating systems (e.g. iOS and Blackberry I think) can edit this.

As can many older phones.

But either way the number displayed there is of no real consequence as far as I know.

I just noticed that mine was unknown so I used Xposed framework and this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/themes-apps/app-sim-changer-change-registered-sim-t2106490) to change it.

Hope this helps.

Hi muddie

I have an S2 also - luckily the initial configuration messages sent on set up worked from the start in my case.

Click on the link below to start:

http://48months.tweakker.com/choose

Remember to power off, then on after running <STRIKE>tge </STRIKE> the configuator, then enable Data Roaming, also ensure you have purchased a membership...otherwise, it will not work (or calls/texts)

I have tried this myself and recieved the text immediately...

You should be up and running in no time.

🙂

On some phones/software you will always get the roaming 'R' on the signal bars when connected to an MVNO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_virtual_network_operator) such as 48 which operates on the O2 network). If you get this and your phone doesn't have an option to enable "National data roaming" to get rid of it then just put up with it and forget about it. It doesn't matter and, more to the point, doesn't incur any additional cost over and above your normal membership etc.

Hope this helps.

Hi dalyer,

Thanks for the reply, I'm not bothered about the roaming I was just curious.

One other issue I have is that the phone doesn't seem to know it's own number, I moved my number over to 48 and I'm using the 48 sim. Is this just an artifact of the number move?

How do you mean it doesn't know its own number?

If it's Android do you mean System settings > About phone > Status > My phone number is Unknown or your old number?

Some versions of Android (e.g. CyanogenMod) can set this - e.g. Dialer > Settings > Additional settings or something like that.

However man versions of Android cannot change it.

In that case it is sometimes possible to stick the SIM into an old feature phone and change it there.

Or this may work?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lytsing.myphonenumber

But either way it seems to be purely a display issue and has no impact on how the phone works as far as I know...

Hope this helps.

Hi dalyer,

Yes I mean the Status > My Phone number is Unknown.

Interesting I didn't know you could re-program the SIM in older phones, maybe the Android SDK provides some way of doing it too...You say some older Android versions don't support that, I'll google and see I guess. Yes it's purely a display issue, I now need to remember my number 🙂

Thank you.
