02 locked phones

Hi I am am looking at a samsung galaxy s3 on the Preloved site and thinking of buying it.It is locked to the 02 network.I know that 02 is the provider for 48 but will 48 sim cards work in 02 locked phones.

I'm pretty sure not and you will still have to get the handset unlocked to work on 48 even though 48 is an MVNO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_virtual_network_operator) operating largely on the O2 network. Often it's possible to buy unlock codes for phones online for a few euros.

A quick Google suggests that unlocking should be possible for free or for a few euro. E.g.:
