My phone does not work whenever there we have a power outage. I understand that wifi will be gone when power goes, but I get no phone signal at all or option to go on my data. I am concerned about the storm on Friday that the power will go again and myself and my husband will be without phones. I use 48 for both my personal and work phones. Is there any way around this issue?

What exactly do you mean?

Your phone has no power and doesn't switch on when you have a local power outage?

Or it doesn't have a connection to the 48 network or something?

And when you refer to WiFi do you actually mean mobile data? Two completely separate things.

Are you in a remote area with perhaps only one cell mast?

In which case if it also loses power then you have no network connection?

If that's the case then I don't think that there's much that can be done about it while the local power is out.

But I would expect cell towers to have their own backup power source (e.g. a generator) so that they would normally remain online even if there's a local power outage.

What do neighbours do regarding mobile phone connectivity in the event of a power outage?

If you need to contact 48 support about this then see the links in my signature below.

I don’t get any connection to the 48 network when there is a power outage. I can’t receive or make calls, or use the internet. I live in meath, in a small town. Not rural or remote. My husband and sister are on 48 and have the same issue. Neighbours on vodafone always have a signal when power goes.

You'll probably have to contact 48 support to ask them about this so.

See the links in my signature below.

As I said I would expect Three/48 masts/equipment to have a backup power supply for situations like this.

If you check the ComReg maps you should be able to see how many masts are in your area.

https://siteviewer.comreg.ie/

If there is more than one then it's unlikely that all of them would be knocked out in the event of a local power outage.

There are also many different free and paid apps that allow you to see what masts are in your are, which ones that you're connecting to, details of the connection and signal strength, etc.

Thanks for your reply. I checked the mast and there is a Three mast in my town. I contacted live chat earlier and got nowhere with it. The person I spoke to thought I was enquiring about roaming and said I need to have automatic network selection. I am none the wiser.
Hopefully the power stays on!

Offaly based.

Every time we lose power we lose the 48 network. Power is currently returned after the storm and the 48 network is down. I'm assuming all local towers are down.

Generally when your away from home day can you make and receive calls and texts with no issue usually cell towers have back up power like a battery source or generator.

Where are you located?

If your local area is still affected by the storm damage then maybe it's outside of 48's control?

But you're talking about coverage dropping out which sounds like a completely different issue?

If you need to contact 48 support about this then see the links in my signature below?

What exactly is happening?

WiFi has nothing to do with 48 - it's a wireless connection to a local area network.

I live in cavan. Same issue. Power out equals phone out. What i did was head up high to another area and phone worked on higher ground about 1 mile away. It's a mast thing i guess.
